Last week…
We welcomed you to the New Year and discussed goals and goal setting at length. We also gave you a peek into our plans at ANEP.
This week?
Goal setting is very important. However, while many new year goals are full of career, spiritual, educational and business projections, we as humans always forget one thing.
What is that thing?
Our health! We set plans for every other thing but we neglect to set health goals. And even when we set health goals, how diligent are we in achieving them? Let’s not even go to the nature of our health goals! They are always limited to one thing.
Seriously, what is that thing?
Physical health. The World Health Organisation defines health as a “total state of mental, physical and social wellbeing, and not merely the absence of diseases”.
So you see My Dear Reader, you may be physically fit but that does not guarantee that you are healthy.
Our mental health is just as important as our physical health. Our social health too! This is because all of them are deeply interwoven and a deficiency in one aspect can deeply affect the others.
Take care of your mental health this year.
How?
Engage in what we call introspection. Look inwards and ask yourself thought-provoking questions. Am I happy? Am I sad? Do I like my job? Are my relationships serving me? Was I a good friend last year? Is there anything I want to change? Is there something or someone that is stressing me? Do I need to talk to someone?
These questions are more than enough to help you know the true state of your mind.
Finally,
Health is wealth, and that includes mental health. When your mental health flourishes, other areas of your life will do the same. Even though we have eaten deep into January, it is not too late to make health goals.
We hope you found this piece insightful. Don’t hesitate to reach out to us if you have any questions or concerns about mental health. Please share with your friends, family and coworkers.
Have a lovely weekend.
Cheers,
