The Importance of Educational Psychology in the Society
Understanding the relevance of Educational Psychology in Nigeria.
We have so many issues bedevilling Nigeria. The lack of awareness about Educational Psychologists and what they do is one of them.
This is one of the reasons why ANEP was formed. While we would like to welcome you to the maiden edition of our newsletter, we also want to give you a simple understanding of Educational Psychology.
What is Psychology?
One cannot have a grasp of Educational Psychology without the knowledge of what Psychology is. Simply put, Psychology is the science of the mind and behaviour. It is a discipline that applies scientific processes to aid in understanding human behaviour and mental processes.
Now that we have established this fact, what then is Educational Psychology?
According to the American Psychological Association (APA), Educational Psychology is the application of psychological principles and theories to teaching, training, and learning issues in the educational setting.
In other words, Educational Psychology seeks to use scientific methods in studying human behaviour and mental processes in the educational setting.
How does this work?
We can all agree that education is intricate and learning is not a one-size-fits-all. Educational Psychologists recognise this fact and navigate ways to make learning possible for all individuals.
By studying human development across the lifespan, Educational Psychologists have been able to describe, explain and predict human behaviour in the educational system. This has led to the birth of novel approaches to learning, and the recognition of impediments to learning. Educational Psychologists have also examined the impact of biological and environmental factors on a person’s ability to learn.
How does Educational Psychology benefit me?
Identifying barriers to learning and proffering appropriate solutions.
Equipping teachers, students, and parents with skills to ensure that education is as healthy and interactive as possible.
Raising awareness about learning disabilities.
In conclusion…
The relevance of Educational Psychology to society is inexhaustible. If you’ve got any questions or contributions, we’ll be happy to read them in the comment section. For more information hit the subscribe button and visit our website: www.anep.com.ng

i will like to be trained to have a master certificate. tell me the steps for an online training on educational psychology. i have been teaching for 17 years in Nigeria and wants to be a school counselor while i still apply psychology on the learners in classroom.
thanks
Hello Lilian, thank you for your comment. I sense your passion and commend your efforts towards impacting the lives of children for 17 years. However, there is a difference between a school counsellor and an educational psychologist.
If you're really interested in becoming an educational psychologist I suggest that a degree from a reputable university near you will be more beneficial than an online training.
